{"id":810,"date":"2019-08-27T09:21:40","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T09:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kme.com.cy\/?p=810"},"modified":"2019-08-29T09:23:01","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T09:23:01","slug":"boc-posts-profit-of-e2-m-for-2q-2019-and-e97-m-for-1h-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kme.com.cy\/?p=810","title":{"rendered":"BoC posts profit of \u20ac2 m for 2Q 2019 and \u20ac97 m for 1H 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bank of Cyprus announced on Tuesday that it has posted profit after tax of \u20ac2m for the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> quarter of 2019 and \u20ac97 mn for the first\u00a0half of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank said that the non performing exposure (NPE) ratio has been reduced to 33%, while coverage increased to 50%. NPEs stood at \u20ac4.3 b (\u20ac2.2 b net), with a 71% reduction since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The BoC reported a \u20ac300 m NPE reduction in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> quarter of 2019 and \u20ac457 m in the first\u00a0half of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Total Capital ratio stood at 18.1% and CET1 ratio at 15.2%.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that the completion of the sale of \u20ac2.7 b NPEs (Project Helix) added 140 bps to capital in the second\u00a0quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe completed the sale of \u20ac2.7 b non-performing loans in Project Helix in June, which added 140 bps of capital. Our on-going organic non-performing exposure reduction amounted to \u20ac300 m for the quarter, bringing total organic reduction in the first half of 2019 to \u20ac457 m, in line with our organic target of \u20ac800 m for 2019. This was the seventeenth consecutive quarter of organic reductions in NPEs,\u201d the Bank\u2019s outgoing Group Chief Executive John Patrick Hourican stated.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the Bank\u2019s capital position remains good.<\/p>\n<p>Hourican noted that during the quarter our deposits remained broadly flat at \u20ac16.4 b and that the cost of deposits reduced by 8 bps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the second quarter of 2019 new lending rose 13% from the prior year to \u20ac548 m, helping support the continued growth in the Cypriot economy. Overall in the first half of 2019, we lent \u20ac1.1 b to customers in Cyprus. Our loan to deposit ratio at the quarter-end stood at 67%. The Bank continues to operate with a significant liquidity surplus, which at the end of the second quarter amounted to \u20ac3.8 b.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BoC also announced that on 26 August the European Central Bank approved the appointment of Panicos Nicolaou as the Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Bank of Cyprus Public Company Limited. The appointment is also effective for the Board of Directors of BOC Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Panicos Nicolaou will take up his duties on September 1 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The BoC also announced a revision of its organisational structure, organising the Group along the structural areas of Functions, Business and Legacy to create more focus and better alignment with the key objectives of the
